Babysitter Checklist – Important Things You Should Remember

Babysitting is not an easy job to do as what many of us foresee it. It is too risky because you are taking care of other people’s children. Their lives and safety are in your hands. It involves a lot of risks because whatever happens to the child while under the babysitter’s care, he or she is liable.

Parents are not to be blamed if they are too cautious in selecting the babysitter for their child. On the other hand babysitters should not feel offended if they are being interrogated keenly because employers just want to make sure that their child will be safe and protected while they are away.

To avoid danger or harmful things to occur, it is a must for parents to prepare a babysitter checklist.  This will be advantageous for both parties.

What must a babysitter checklist include? Well, all the necessary information a babysitter must be familiar with should be included in it. Basic information about the parents of the child like their complete names, name of each other’s company, hand phone number s or companies’ phone numbers, and addresses of the companies they are working.

These are for emergency purposes or situations where the babysitter needs to communicate with the parents. Write the child’s complete name, snacks he should eat and the time he eats them and the time he should go to sleep. If the child has allergy on some foods, put in the babysitter checklist the foods he must avoid.

There are cases that parents forget to take down this information so babysitters should initiate to ask.

Children love to play and do tricks. They love to jump and run like no end around the place. Minor injuries like bruise on parts of the body and minor cuts can be dealt by the babysitter. So parents must make the babysitter familiar with the house especially where the first aid kit is located.

This is just for minor damages but for big cases, the babysitter is expected to bring the child to the nearest hospital or go to the family doctor. The complete name and phone number of the baby’s doctor must be in the babysitter checklist because nobody knows when it is needed.

Where to play and whom the child is allowed to have fun with should be written in the checklist as well.  This is necessary especially if the child is allowed to play outside the house. Notify the babysitter of your house rules especially when it comes to the food and usage of the appliances.

Make it clear what foods are to be and not to be eaten in your kitchen. Regarding the appliances such as TV, phone and computer, you must tell the childcare provider your regulations. Mention in the list what programs the child can view and until what time he can watch TV.

For pool regulations, put in the babysitter checklist whether the child is allowed to swim in the pool while you are away. Pool is one of the dangerous areas in the house and the child must not be left alone. If the child is taking some medicines or vitamins, mention the quantity and when it should be taken.

Usually conflicts occur between the parents and the babysitter if they learn that their child was hit by the babysitter. It is a child’s nature to be naughty so the babysitter must know how to deal with it. Parents should also include in the babysitter checklist what kind of discipline they wanted to do for their child.
